Recording IFS and Eating Disorders – Amy Grabowski

Eating Disorders (ED’s) have the highest relapse rate of all the mental illnesses and can be very frustrating for clinicians.  Amy Y Grabowski’s theory is that most therapeutic models do not resolve the core issues which originally led to the ED’s.  Ms. Grabowski believes that ED’s result from the sacrifice of the Self usually as a result of Trauma.  Participants will learn about accessing the client’s Self energy and helping the client’s «Parts» become more in balance

Didatic presentation with videos of the use of IFS therapy w/client:

1)     ED anxiety disorder b/c of lack of sense of self.

2)     Sacrifice of self b/c of Trauma/trauma

3)     Intro to IFS therapy (an evidence based therapy)

4)     3 sets of “Parts” and Self

5)     Video clips illustrating parts & self.

Participants will be able to understand and identify the three main groups of Parts of the IFS therapy system.

Participants will understand that Eating Disorders can be seen as a subset of Anxiety Disorders, especially with clients who are trauma/Trauma survivors.

Participants will understand the difference between Big T Trauma and little t trauma
Participants will understand how Trauma/trauma effects the sense of Self.
